Unpaid cavalry follows loot instead of the battle

Maximilian's heavily armored cavalry enters the campaign unpaid, giving its soldiers a stronger incentive to seek plunder than to support the imperial infantry.

Notes

The imperial force includes roughly a thousand members of a specialist, heavily armored guard described as French troops from Burgundy, but their pay has been neglected. The unpaid cavalry concentrate on finding loot instead of serving as a reliable battlefield arm. Later, most are dispersed or robbing the dead while the infantry struggle is decided. Failed military finance weakens cohesion, reconnaissance, and combined-arms performance at the point of contact.
