Underwater drones for exploring shallow warship wrecks

A viewer's underwater-drone suggestion leads to plans for exploring warship wrecks in water shallower than 500 metres.

Question

Could a Norwegian underwater drone be used to find and explore the warship wrecks discussed in the video?

Short answer

Yes. A tethered vehicle rated to 500 metres would be deep enough. The plan was to raise money to own one, possibly with a backup vehicle for recovery.

Notes

A Norwegian company had discussed providing a phone-controlled, tethered underwater vehicle rated to 500 metres. That depth would reach the wrecks under discussion. Owning the vehicle would give the team control over when and how it was used instead of leaving the work dependent on a loan. A second or smaller vehicle could recover the primary unit if it became trapped underwater. That makes redundancy part of the wreck-survey plan.
