Saving weapon weight for a battleship intended to fight at long range

A long-range battle plan justifies cutting torpedo ammunition and revising secondaries while retaining the heavy centerline battery.

Notes

A long-range fighting plan changes which weapons justify their weight. The super-battleship switches from turbo-electric machinery to geared turbines, but remains overweight. Torpedo ammunition is reduced because the tubes are a weapon of last resort and the ship is not intended to enter torpedo range. Secondary-battery reductions are considered for the same reason. The design retains centerline quadruple 18-inch mountings and replaces its five-inch weapons while continuing to reduce displacement.
