U-410 sank Penelope in 1944 with two torpedo hits around her after machinery spaces. The first struck the after engine room, aft of the after funnel. The second hit beneath the after boiler room, below that funnel. Although the torpedoes arrived 16 minutes apart, their nearby impact positions concentrated the damage in one part of the small cruiser.
