The Type 45's intended secondary land-attack role included Mark 41 vertical-launch cells for weapons such as Tomahawk. The upgrade described here instead adds CAMM, or Sea Ceptor, for short-range air defence. Taking that role away from Aster 15 allows more Aster 30 missiles in the existing Sea Viper load. The expected total rises to 72 missiles, a useful increase that is still judged short of the magazine depth needed.

Sea Ceptor changes the Type 45 missile mix
Adding Sea Ceptor would free more of the Type 45's existing missile load for Aster 30, while its earlier land-attack ambition remains unfulfilled.
