Type 45's air-defence capability is judged strong, but sixteen Mark 41 vertical-launch cells are proposed to broaden the ship's armament. The suggested loads are SM-3 and Tomahawk. These would add ballistic-missile defence and land attack to the proposal. The recommendation describes a desired future fit, rather than weapons already carried by the ships.
