The December 2025 comparison challenges claims that Type 31 is more popular than Type 26 by contrasting possible programme totals. Even a possible four-ship Danish purchase would bring the cited Type 31 total to 13, against 34 ships across the Type 26 plans and orders. Light frigates face more competition from Mogami and Italian or German alternatives, as well as domestic designs developed with foreign help. Britain, Indonesia and Poland are participants, while Denmark and Sweden remain possible buyers. The Type 31 hull has substantial adaptable space and needs a relatively small crew for its size. At roughly 140 metres long against about 150 metres for the British Type 26, it is still a large ship despite its lighter role.
