After Narvik, Germany ordered seven more Type 1936A Mob destroyers to join eight already under construction. Many did not enter service until late 1941 or 1942, and some waited until late 1943. Z39 was laid down in 1940 and commissioned in August 1943; Z30, the last of the original Type 1936A batch, was only laid down on 15 April 1940. Infrastructure and shipbuilding capacity constrained the immediate response. The design nevertheless remained a pre-war continuation, retaining the 150 mm guns whose loading and handling drew criticism in close destroyer combat. Limited orders, slow construction, and the persistence of that armament choice delayed recovery of the screening force.

The Type 1936A response repeated earlier choices
Instead of rapidly replacing the force lost at Narvik, Germany ordered a limited Type 1936A batch that entered service slowly and retained the 150 mm-gun emphasis.
