The Type 1936 design benefited from knowledge gained while building the Type 1934s. None of those predecessors had been commissioned when the new design began, so the available lessons came chiefly from construction. More building and development work nevertheless improved the Type 1936 design and its seakeeping. Wartime proposals later absorbed lessons from destroyer battles and operations. Much of that knowledge reached designs that Germany was unable to build, although some later Type 1936 variants did receive wartime experience.
