A different Dreadnought benchmark could push guns to 14 inches

A hypothetical jump from rivals' 11- and 12-inch guns to 14-inch weapons illustrates how a larger Warrior could change the ambitions behind Dreadnought.

Notes

If the original Warrior moment meant building far above a rival's weight and firepower, repeating it would require a more ambitious later battleship. The illustration starts with rivals already carrying 11-inch and 12-inch guns, then proposes a jump to 14-inch guns. More guns and greater speed would add to the intended margin. The earlier comparison is between a hypothetical French ironclad of around 7,000 tons and a British two-decker of 12,000 to 13,000 tons, perhaps more. That larger benchmark would have to be matched by a continuing construction program to make the same industrial statement. The calibres illustrate the pressure to escalate, without establishing a definite alternative Dreadnought design.
