The origins and campaigns of Legio XX Valeria Victrix

A legion reference introduces the Twentieth through its late-Republican foundation, Germanicus's campaigns, and service in the Roman invasion of Britain.

Notes

The reference dates the Twentieth Legion's foundation to Julius Caesar's civil-war mobilization in 49 BC. It follows the formation through the Pannonian War and Germanicus's campaigns on the Rhine. The legion then joined the invasion of Britain and fought in later British campaigns, including the response to Boudica's revolt. Recruitment and posting notes place this famous British legion within a wider imperial system rather than treating it as a force rooted in one province from the beginning.
