Coldstream Guards crews obtained aircraft rockets and improvised Tulip launchers beside their Sherman tank turrets. The adapted rails could fire several RP-3 warhead types, although the source of the equipment and the way crews carried reloads remain uncertain. During the March 1945 advance into Germany, Tulip-equipped tanks led the renewed attack toward a bridge west of Lingen after an earlier attempt had failed. British troops cut the demolition wires, captured the crossing, and poured forces over it before the defenders could destroy it. The episode shows how field improvisation gave armoured units a burst of firepower without waiting for a purpose-built vehicle.
