The concentrated fleet battle the Royal Navy planned for

A combined Allied force of carriers, battleships, cruisers, and destroyer flotillas resembles the concentrated fleet action Royal Navy doctrine expected.

Notes

British units joined by Dutch and French ships could create a force of roughly nine or ten battleships, several carriers, cruisers, and as many as six destroyer flotillas. Tribal-class formations and a senior destroyer commander give the screen the organisation expected for a major fleet battle. The situation is unusually favourable for the Royal Navy because its trade routes lie behind the battle area and Japan is one of the few opponents likely to seek a comparable concentration. Jutland remains the benchmark for formation, destroyer employment, command, and signals, with the joke about Beatty's signal lieutenants standing for lessons learned from 1916. This is the concentrated battle for which interwar Royal Navy doctrine and exercises had prepared.
