John Jellicoe was aboard Victoria, survived the sinking, and had observed the command system Tryon was trying to build. He later commanded the Grand Fleet during World War I. Jellicoe sought more subordinate judgment than Beatty's more centralized command style allowed. His career links the Victoria disaster to the Royal Navy's later effort to make command intent work across a much larger fleet.
