Triton launches its marines to rescue civilians while the enemy spacecraft remain unresponsive. Titus warns the landing force that the threat is still poorly understood, and its commander makes saving people the priority where possible. The transport takes a wide route around the hostile ships. Triton must then keep the enemy occupied long enough for the rescuers and survivors to return, with abandonment of the colony and a later return in greater strength still an option.

Triton: buying time for a civilian rescue
The immediate tactical requirement is to keep a rescue route open long enough to recover civilians, even if the colony must be abandoned.
