Chapter · 1:31-2:19

Tribal-class destroyers enabled reconnaissance and landings

A book excerpt explains how Tribal-class destroyers surveyed landing sites, helped establish the base, escorted troopships, and ferried troops ashore at Namsos.

Notes

The removal of the German destroyer threat gave the Royal Navy the sea control it had lacked at the First Battle of Narvik. The 4th Destroyer Flotilla investigated possible landing sites and helped select Namsos. HMS Somali stayed behind to help establish the base. Tribal-class destroyers then escorted converted-liner troopships to Namsos and ferried the troops ashore.
