Why heavy Tribal-class losses do not prove a poor design

A class selected for especially dangerous missions can suffer heavy losses because of its usefulness, complicating comparisons based on survival alone.

Notes

Tribal-class destroyers were often chosen for commando and other dangerous operations because commanders considered them well suited to succeeding. That exposed them to risks that other classes did not face as frequently. Comparing losses alone can therefore make an effective design look unsuccessful. Judging the class requires considering the assignments that produced those losses.
