Tribal and Beagle classes shape Royal Navy destroyers

The Tribal and Beagle classes show how speed, seakeeping, hull strength, and fleet requirements drove a recognizable Royal Navy destroyer lineage.

Notes

The early Tribal-class destroyers accompanied a faster battle fleet. Stronger bows and hull construction let them maintain speed in a wider range of weather, even where their nominal speed offered little improvement over earlier destroyers. The reconstruction of HMS Zubian from damaged Tribal-class ships illustrates that hull strength. C-class submarines also gave the Navy experience relevant to submarine operations and anti-submarine warfare. The Beagles developed bow flare, bridge shape, and internal arrangement that remained recognizable in later Royal Navy destroyers through the Daring class.
