The Treasurer of the Navy controlled a separate pay machine

Follow the office beyond bookkeeping to the Navy Pay Office, Accountant General, dedicated premises, and a long life that outlasted the Navy Board.

Notes

The Treasurer of the Navy remained in office until the post was abolished in 1836. The Treasurer oversaw the Navy Pay Office and the Department of the Accountant General of the Navy. The office maintained its own staff and premises on Broad Street before later occupying Somerset House. The Accountant General reported to the Treasurer, placing substantial financial administration under the office.
