The class paired seven 152 mm guns with Bofors 40 mm and 25 mm anti-aircraft weapons plus six torpedo tubes. About 100,000 shaft horsepower produced 33 knots and a stated range of 4,350 nautical miles at 14 knots. Protection combined a 70 mm belt, two 30 mm armoured decks, and turret armour ranging from 50 to 127 mm, while the conning tower received only splinter-level protection. Göta Lejon's later refit replaced parts of the light battery with 57 mm weapons and newer 40 mm guns without sacrificing the torpedo armament.
