Chapter ยท 20:28-24:17

Work, mobility, and green space are survival infrastructure

Displaced civilians need purposeful work, movement between ships, and restorative space as well as calories and bunks.

Notes

Unlike a carrier crew, the refugees did not volunteer or train for prolonged confinement after catastrophic loss. Meaningful work would be essential both to operate the fleet and to keep people from dwelling continuously on trauma. Shuttle links between ships and park-like areas aboard botanical vessels would also matter, even when productive agriculture competes for the same space. Fruit trees and herbs could make some park space productive while preserving somewhere for people to walk. A believable survival plan must allocate scarce volume and transport capacity to psychological resilience as well as immediate physical needs.
