Amphibious capability depends on rehearsal

Ships and landing forces require specialist training, because amphibious operations demand closely practised maritime and land coordination.

Notes

Royal Marines and equivalent forces train intensively because amphibious work is unusually difficult and mistakes are costly. Recent exercises in Norway helped the British force undertake the Falklands campaign's amphibious tasks. Ships alone cannot create this competence because naval commanders, landing forces, aviation, beach parties, and logisticians must rehearse as one system. Training and institutional memory are part of amphibious capability, not an optional supplement to hardware.
