HMS Belfast's preservation is welcome given her Second World War and Korean War service. Her survival is set beside the loss of every Tribal-class destroyer, HMS Warspite, and the Royal Navy's armored aircraft carriers. That wider absence makes preservation a question of historical representation as well as the record of a single famous ship. Newcastle is the Town-class example of another cruiser whose service could have justified preservation, even though that opportunity was lost.
