How quadruple turrets could have reshaped British cruisers

The variation accepted within Britain's Town class opens a counterfactual in which sixteen-gun Edinburghs produce smaller twelve-gun Crown Colony cruisers with only three turrets.

Notes

The British Town class shows how much variation can exist inside one class label. Belfast and Edinburgh were intended for quadruple six-inch turrets that would have raised their battery to sixteen guns, a major departure from earlier sisters. Had that mounting worked, a Crown Colony cruiser could have retained twelve guns in only three turrets, freeing hull space while matching the earlier Towns' broadside. The resulting comparison would have been sixteen guns in the late Towns against twelve in a more compact three-turret successor. The counterfactual connects turret development with class lineage, hull arrangement, and fleet design.
