Total gun count versus the actual broadside

The duel distinguishes a ship's cumulative gun count from the number of guns it can bring into the broadside that actually faces the enemy.

Notes

The ships' cumulative gun counts are 65 against 55, but the larger total may not mean more guns in the broadside facing the enemy. A ship's headline armament does not by itself describe the fire it can bring onto one bearing at one moment. A useful comparison has to join nominal gun count to hull orientation and firing arc. The game's counters make the arithmetic visible while warning against equating the total battery automatically with broadside firepower.
