After London's loss, the remaining ships turn manually into better torpedo-avoidance positions. The class also needs more 4-inch or 6-inch secondary guns against the lighter attackers surrounding it. The deeper problem is a strategic shortage of destroyers and light cruisers caused by concentrating on capital-ship construction. Destroyers could fight opposing destroyers while battleships engage larger targets, and a dozen light cruisers would have changed the battle. Local self-defence armament can support a screen, but smaller ships are still needed to keep threats away from the battle line.

Secondary batteries cannot replace a fleet screen
Manual evasion and heavier secondary batteries help against torpedo craft, but the battle still exposes the strategic cost of too few destroyers and light cruisers.
