Torpedo bombers over Jutland

Even a modest force of torpedo-carrying medium bombers could disrupt Jutland, with the German fleet more exposed because of its weaker air defenses.

Question

How many torpedo-carrying bombers would either side need to affect the Battle of Jutland?

Short answer

A few dozen medium bombers could have a major effect, especially against the less air-defense-conscious German fleet.

Notes

The premise works better with medium twin-engine aircraft such as later Beaufort, B-25, or B-26 types than with heavy bombers. Those aircraft can carry torpedoes without the size and operating burden of a four-engine bomber. A few dozen could materially damage either fleet. German ships would face the greater danger because British planners were already more alert to air attack, even though their defenses were still limited.
