The Reichsmarine inherited the Kaiserliche Marine's torpedo-boat tradition while working under the Treaty of Versailles and a restricted budget. The Möwe and Wolf groups became the starting point for its interwar fast fleet units. Their original armament included three 105 mm guns and two triple 500 mm torpedo-tube mountings. Replacing the tubes with 533 mm weapons preserved the number of torpedoes while adding considerable weight. Mine capacity is given as 30 to 39, depending on the source, and some boats tested the 127 mm guns intended for the Type 1934 destroyers.
