Tordenskjold and the Baltic's White Eagle frigate

The Swedish frigate Vita Orn combined a reputation for Baltic speed with decades of Danish service after Peter Tordenskjold captured her.

Notes

Nordic Sailor's comment credits Peter Tordenskjold with capturing the Swedish frigate Vita Orn, or White Eagle, in 1715. The vessel was reputed to be the fastest in the Baltic and nicknamed its Flying Dutchman. She carried 22 12-pounders and was built at Karlskrona in 1711 under an English shipbuilder. Renamed in Danish service, she took part in further actions in 1716 and 1719 and remained on the navy list until 1751.
