Most naval officers never fight an action with immediate consequences for a whole campaign, but Dynekilen gave Tordenskjold that rare distinction. The victory interrupted Charles XII's Norwegian invasion by destroying the artillery on which it depended. Copenhagen commemorates Tordenskjold with a statue, while several later ships have carried his name. Danish and Norwegian naval tradition has reason to remember both his daring and his use of small forces against precise objectives.
