Dividing Torch between Guadalcanal and Eighth Army

A proposed response to Pacific defeat diverts part of Torch to Guadalcanal while landing the remainder behind Eighth Army via the Red Sea.

Notes

A severe American reverse could make the forces assembled for Operation Torch an available source of reinforcements for the Pacific. One proposal sends only part of that force to Guadalcanal. The remainder would travel around Africa and make administrative landings behind Eighth Army instead of attacking from western North Africa. Escorts could accompany the combined movement into the Indian Ocean, then divide as the North African transports continued through the Red Sea toward Alexandria. The Pacific-bound transports and warships could thus arrive off Guadalcanal as a substantial force. This is a proposed alternate allocation of the same shipping and troops, with an altered North African campaign.
