How Invergordon spread ship by ship

Reports among Wake, Colvin, and Tomkinson show a protest spreading unevenly across the fleet, with suggestions that some petty officers and officers helped sailors communicate.

Notes

After Captain Wake reports the disturbances, Rear Admirals Colvin and Tomkinson choose to notify the Admiralty instead of punishing a grievance they understand. Commander-in-Chief Admiral Sir Michael Hodges is in hospital, leaving Tomkinson in temporary command of the Atlantic Fleet. Warspite and Malaya depart for exercises as Centurion, Shikari, Snapdragon, and Tetrarch arrive, increasing the number and variety of crews in harbour. Further meetings continue, but an officer patrol is allowed to address sailors and the crowd returns peacefully to its ships. Initial reports show no trouble in the cruisers or the newly crewed Repulse, while Hood, Rodney, Valiant, and Nelson present greater concern. Some petty officers and officers may have helped communication because they expected similar cuts and sympathized with the ratings, although the protesters remained largely non-hostile toward officers. The action spread through uneven local decisions rather than a single centrally controlled seizure of the fleet.
