Chapter · 28:18-30:10

Tokiwa's second career as a minelayer

Tokiwa moved from armored-cruiser battles to minelaying, surviving submarine attack, mines, and air attack before final scrapping.

Notes

Tokiwa matched her sister's Russo-Japanese War commitment, adding the Battle of Ulsan to service at Tsushima. Conversion to a minelayer gave the aging hull an operational role again by 1941. USS Salmon attacked her unsuccessfully, and aircraft from USS Enterprise damaged her in February 1942. She later hit mines and suffered further damage during American B-29 mining operations, yet remained on the Navy List until November 1945. Refloating and scrapping in 1947 closed a career that stretched from the armored-cruiser era into modern submarine, mine, and air warfare.
