Why an extreme Tillman turret still needs a much wider hull

A question about an eight-gun mounting separates the ability to manufacture a huge turret from the ability to operate it safely at sea.

Question

Could the Tillman IV-2's extreme multi-gun turrets have been built and used?

Short answer

They could probably have been built, but the proposed hull lacked the beam needed to handle such a mounting safely and usefully.

Notes

The answer accepts that enough money and engineering effort could produce an extreme multi-gun turret. The harder problem is what happens when that mass and its long barrels train across the ship. A hull with too little beam would experience severe stability and handling consequences as the mounting rotates. The Tillman concept is therefore used to show why a turret that is physically buildable may still be operationally impractical.
