As resistance contracts around the citadel, a radio report to Himmler says Soviet forces are systematically destroying houses and infantry are burning outposts with flamethrowers. The disabled Tiger is towed through the last entrance and concealed near woods overlooking Zeppelin Meadow. Its 180-degree field of fire forces approaching troops across open ground. Polish civilians, German infantry, and the tank crew share a nearby house, where the second floor gives the crew a vantage point and rapid trench access to the vehicle. Warm soup briefly returns as the defenders move closer to the supply source. A strong local firing position and a modest improvement in supply could survive inside an otherwise collapsing perimeter.
