Why Tiger followed a different battlecruiser design path

Lion, Queen Mary, and Tiger needed protection against enemy battlecruisers they could not outrun, while Fisher's preferred designs emphasized fast economic warfare.

Notes

Tiger's heavier, denser construction and extensive subdivision place it closer to the fast-battleship end of this comparison than Renown, Repulse, or Hood. Fisher's preferred approach emphasized ships that could scout, attack trade, and escape an enemy battle fleet. The Invincibles performed effectively in those roles early in the First World War. Lion, Queen Mary, and Tiger faced a further requirement because enemy battlecruisers could match their speed. They needed to defeat those opponents and absorb damage from them, rather than relying on escape.
