Why Terrier became too costly and did not suit carriers

Terrier's fleetwide support burden became hard to justify after steam ships retired, while its size, maintenance demands, and interference with air operations made it a poor carrier fit.

Notes

Terrier disappeared in 1992 as non-nuclear steam warships left service, leaving only three nuclear-powered platforms to carry a system whose support costs were difficult to justify. The video also agrees that fitting Terrier to aircraft carriers was a mistake. A carrier exists to operate aircraft, so an air-defence system that competes for funding, deck arrangements, or control space faces an especially high bar. Terrier's bulk, expense, and maintenance difficulties worked against it. The possibility that missile firing arrangements could interfere with aircraft control or flight operations reinforced the case for removal.
