Tenth Air Force and the 1943 offensive against Penang

In 1943, Royal Navy submarines, carrier strikes, and Tenth Air Force operations all contributed to pressure on the Penang-based threat.

Notes

Coastal Command had only a limited presence, while the US Tenth Air Force worked alongside Royal Navy submarines and carrier strikes. B-17s and B-24s gave the theater long-range aircraft able to attack shipping and bases. Mountbatten's combined structure placed formal seniority with an air chief marshal, yet practical operational coordination rested with the American Tenth Air Force commander. Raids on Penang formed part of a joint effort to contain German and Japanese submarine activity and disrupt shipping across a very wide theater.
