The closing test for a technology gamble

The closing question invites comparisons with governments and companies that risked their wider capabilities on one promised technology.

Notes

The closing question asks for examples since about 1800 of enthusiasm for a new technology producing poor decisions or an unbalanced force. The same problem applies to companies that expect one new system or project to rescue the business. A successful outcome does not remove the risk of the original gamble. Analysis can inform the decision, but staking the entire organisation on one project leaves it exposed to losing everything.
