More Taranto hits and the limits of Italian repairs

Extra torpedo hits could keep Italian battleships out of service through the greater repair burden, even if they sank in the same shallow water.

Notes

A larger Taranto strike would retain the tension-wire technique used for the torpedo drops. The estimate considers roughly twice as many hits on ships the aircraft could reach. Italian yards might then struggle to restore vessels that historically returned to service because the damage would be much greater. The ships would not have to sink in deeper water for their recovery to become substantially harder. Cruisers and perhaps a capital ship could still survive, with Giulio Cesare's harbour position making a torpedo attack particularly difficult. Skuas are suggested as a possible way to attack that awkward target.
