Tameichi Hara from Java Sea to Guadalcanal

In Amatsukaze, Tameichi Hara fought at the Java Sea, the occupation of Christmas Island, Midway, and the eastern Solomons. At Guadalcanal, his destroyer sank USS Barton and helped sink USS Juneau. Hara left his searchlights on to draw fire from USS Helena, allowing other Japanese ships to locate and engage her by following the gun flashes. The tactic concentrated American fire on Amatsukaze and required repairs afterward, but the destroyer survived. This was the calculated aggression expected from destroyer commanders.
