East-coast ports complicate a Taiwan blockade

Taiwan can receive self-unloading ships from the Philippine Sea, forcing a blockader to cover difficult eastern approaches and find moving cargo after it lands.

Notes

Taiwan's Pacific coast offers additional approaches for shipping from the Philippine Sea. The number and capacity of its ports are limited, but cargo ships with their own cranes need different unloading facilities from ships wholly dependent on shore equipment. Roads through the mountains and around the coast provide onward transport routes. Interdicting movement on those routes would require timely information rather than an assumption that rocket fire will find its target. Aircraft, drones, or observers supplying that information would themselves face exposure, especially while transmitting. The operational problem therefore includes unloading capacity, inland distribution, and surveillance of moving cargo.
