The T class was designed for long-range work and becomes particularly valuable when losses to Italian forces never occur. After retaining some boats for Atlantic service, as many as eight might operate from Singapore. Other submarines and minelayers are also freed from Malta supply and Mediterranean duties, while merchant shipping avoids the losses of that theater. Together with Dutch submarines and cruisers, these boats create a stronger Far Eastern tripwire before Japan moves south.

Submarines not consumed by Mediterranean operations can move east, potentially placing about eight long-range T-class boats at Singapore by 1941.
