Could the difference in displacement between Sydney and Kormoran explain their different resistance to flooding?

Internal subdivision matters more than displacement alone.

Internal division determines how far flooding can spread through a damaged ship. Comparing Sydney's displacement with Kormoran's therefore cannot by itself explain their resistance to flooding.
