Merchant ships generally lack warship-standard sensors and electronics, while their subdivision is intended to withstand hazards at sea rather than missile or torpedo damage. Survey ships are unusual in having extensive computing facilities; that advantage does not remove their civilian hull limitations. Computers devoted to survey work could be replaced with weapon-control computers, at the cost of survey-data accuracy. Spare computing space included during construction would give a later military fit more room. Containerised weapons also require command and control, and sometimes separate generators when the ship lacks suitable power connections.

Survey ships already carry the computing a conversion needs
Survey vessels offer computing spaces that ordinary merchant ships lack, but weapons still require command, control, power, and survivability provisions.
