How mentors and editors help a book reach publication

A supervisor's introduction can open a conversation with an editor, but the author still has to complete the research and writing.

Notes

The account of meeting an editor through Andrew Lambert illustrates the value of trusted academic networks. It also avoids reducing publication to connections alone: the author still faced a contract, a delayed schedule, disrupted research, and the need to adapt working habits during the pandemic. Moving from quiet external workplaces to writing at home required a deliberate change in routine and eventually a separate garden office. Support can create an opportunity, but a book emerges only through sustained work after that introduction.
