What a Super Town would demand from its hull and magazines

Quadruple turrets would have required a wider and longer hull with larger magazines; cost and production pressure favoured proven triple mountings.

Notes

A counterfactual Super Town needed more beam for its turrets and more length to retain speed with the existing machinery, producing an estimated hull around 194 metres long. Crew size might still have remained near 850 because the extra space eased some internal arrangements even as each turret gained a fourth gun. Four additional guns required about 800 extra shells at the lower allowance, or roughly 1,600 extra according to the larger estimate given in the video. That magazine demand and another increase of about 1,150 tons show how an armament change affected hull dimensions, stores, and displacement. Cost and production tempo are proposed as the likely reasons the adequate triple mounting won out. The Royal Navy was already building complex King George V-class battleships, aircraft carriers, and high-end destroyers, while the quadruple mounting was still immature. No definitive Admiralty explanation is cited, so the argument remains an interpretation.
