Designing super-cruisers to resemble capital ships

The design answer treats a cruiser silhouette as a tool for recognition, uncertainty, and fleet deception.

Question

Should treaty-era British super-cruisers resemble the existing Queen Elizabeth layout or a new N3-style capital ship?

Short answer

They should resemble the contemporary battlefleet, so an N3-based fleet would favor nine-gun cruisers with the same three-forward-turret silhouette.

Notes

County-class cruisers already echoed the appearance of contemporary Royal Navy battleships. A counterfactual fleet could repeat that approach with cruisers that looked like reduced N3s from a distance. An observer would then need time and better information to decide whether the contact was a cruiser or a capital ship. External arrangement could serve operational deception as well as machinery and armament layout.
