Sturgeon's patrol tempo and transfer to the Dutch Navy

Sturgeon survived a friendly torpedo encounter, ranged from the North Sea to the Mediterranean, and continued operations under Dutch colors.

Notes

The boat's early patrols included a mistaken three-torpedo attack on sister submarine Swordfish and an unsuccessful attack on U-23. Her patrol pattern then shifted from the North Sea and Skagerrak to the Bay of Biscay, Arctic waters, and the Mediterranean. After a rebuild she transferred to the Royal Netherlands Navy and returned to operations around Norway under the name Zeehond. That sustained activity made Sturgeon the only first-group S-class boat to survive the war.
