A battlecruiser command that changes the succession question

Sturdee's actual position at Jutland and his established staff network make a successful temporary battlecruiser command consequential for later Grand Fleet leadership.

Notes

At Jutland, Sturdee commanded the Fourth Battle Squadron and stood high in the Grand Fleet's succession order. His mixed but powerful command included HMS Royal Oak with her fifteen-inch guns alongside Iron Duke-class, Bellerophon-class, and other battleships, while Rear Admiral Alexander Duff supplied experienced divisional leadership. Moving Sturdee would also move trusted officers and staff relationships, just as modern senior commanders bring parts of a team to a new post. A creditable Jutland under Sturdee would strengthen his claim when Jellicoe later left the Grand Fleet, undercutting Beatty's historical claim to be the natural successor. The scenario therefore changes career pathways as well as battle decisions.
